SAN ANTONIO – Border Trade Alliance President Nelson Balido today issued the following statement on the U.S. Senate's planned Thursday session to pass a $600 million border security bill:
"The Senate's doing the right thing by reconvening Thursday to pass this important border security bill. Securing our borders and directing badly needed resources to our land border ports of entry is too important a job to let wait until next month. Border communities and the cross-border trade community applaud Senate leadership for its decision to come back into session and pass this bill." Bill highlights: - $68 million to hire 250 addition Customs and Border Protection officers at ports of entry along the U.S.-Mexico border and maintain current CBP staffing
- $14 million for CBP communications system - $32 million for two unmanned aerial vehicles - $176 million for 1,000 additional Border Patrol agents # # #
