U.S. Border Patrol Discusses Permanent Checkpoints

The BTA met with U.S. Border Patrol and other Arizona stakeholders to discuss having permanent checkpoints at Arizona ports of entry. Permanent checkpoints have been established in California, New Mexico and Texas. The Tucson Sector accounts for thirty-seven percent of all south west border arrests, yet it is the only sector with no permanent checkpoints. Topics discussed at the meeting were location and design options, funding, safety and environmental issues, and feedback from communities and stakeholders. If you have any feedback regarding permanent checkpoints, please contact the BTA.
