Surface Trade with Canada and Mexico Reached a Monthly Record High in March 2007

Thursday, May 31, 2007 - Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners Canada and Mexico was 2.3 percent higher in March 2007 than in March 2006, reaching $69.8 billion, the highest monthly level ever recorded, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mexico’s economy: Fiscal reform is coming soon - The Economist

Mexico’s government will soon present its proposals for fiscal reform, after weeks of discussion with political party leaders, governors and congressional representatives. The much-awaited initiative is not expected to be as bold as the authorities might like, as they say it will be designed to be both “technically sound and politically feasible”. Given the opposition that doomed a fiscal reform package proposed by the previous administration, the government of President Felipe Calderón, which lacks a majority in Congress, is taking a more conciliatory approach and is willing to accept less controversial and more gradual changes to the fiscal framework. Canadian firms bearing brunt of border costs - The Star.com

OTTAWA–Canadian companies are bearing the brunt of stricter border security measures put in place after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, a new study shows. The Conference Board of Canada found that, surprisingly, the new security policies have not decreased trade volumes between Canada and the United States despite the still-vivid images of endless lines of trucks and cars held up at checkpoints.
