WHTI Success Crucial to Economic Security: BTA Submits Comments to Department of State

On Monday August 27, 2007, the Border Trade Alliance (BTA) submitted comments in response to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) at land and sea ports-of-entry. The BTA has long supported secure travel programs put forward by the federal government. However through its comments to the Department of State regarding WHTI, the BTA continues to insist that deployment of WHTI at land and sea be contingent upon the federal government’s ability to implement the security program effectively and efficiently rather than rushing to meet arbitrary deadlines. The Border Trade Alliance also shared its recommendations to ensure that WHTI is a successful program increasing the physical and economic security of our homeland.
