BTA urges Congress to advance bipartisan permitting reform
In a letter to Sens. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), Mike Lee (R-UT), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), the BTA conveyed its support for S. 5653, the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026.
The letter highlights how lengthy and unpredictable federal permitting processes can delay investments in highways, bridges, and other transportation facilities supporting cross-border commerce.
The BTA commends the sponsors’ bipartisan leadership and urges Congress to advance reforms that would make environmental reviews more efficient and predictable while maintaining environmental protections. Modern infrastructure and timely project approvals are essential to strengthening supply chains and North American competitiveness.
