December 21, 2015

WASHINGTON – Border Trade Alliance President Noe Garcia, III and City of McAllen International Bridge Superintendent Rigo Villarreal, a BTA board member and the chairman of BTA México, joined Texas U.S. Senator John Cornyn on Capitol Hill yesterday for the senator’s swearing-in and festivities marking the opening of the 114th Congress.

Sen. Cornyn in 2015 begins his tenure as the new Senate majority whip.

“We were honored to join Sen. Cornyn for such a momentous occasion,” Garcia said. “To have Sen. Cornyn assume the leadership post of Senate majority whip is a coup for the border region. Sen. Cornyn has a keen understanding of the importance of fostering a border environment that is both secure and friendly to trade and travel as a means of strengthening our economy and competitiveness. We wish him and his colleagues all the best for a successful year.”

Villarreal was equally enthusiastic.

“Sen. Cornyn has visited our international bridges many times and understands the unique issues facing the US-Mexico border. BTA México looks forward to working with Sen. Cornyn in the new Congress to promote policies that strengthen the competitiveness of our region,” Villarreal said.
